The Pierre Paulin
centenary
In 2027, the Fonds Pierre Paulin, together with Mobilier national and Centre Pompidou, will celebrate the centenary of Pierre Paulin’s birth in collaboration with partners in Paris, throughout France and abroad.
Exhibitions, displays and events will be organised at a range of venues. This unprecedented programme will explore his work through different themes, periods and perspectives: his Nordic influences and the figure of Alvar Aalto in the 1950s; his exploration of textiles, including knit fabrics and their elastic properties, in the 1960s; his interior designs; and the visionary modular system he designed for Herman Miller in the 1970s.
The celebration of Pierre Paulin’s centenary in 2027 will offer an opportunity to revisit the extensive output of this visionary designer, whose career spanned more than four decades—from his first chair in 1953 to his death in Montpellier in 2009—and to consider the importance of his contribution to design history and the impact of his work on fields including architecture and cinema.
